Song Review: Burnt Lodge "The Horsebreakers of Pasheeknga"
Originating from Southern California, melodic death metal act Burnt Lodge released their 6-track album "Intergenerational Anamnesis" on November 9th. The final track of the album "The Horsebreakers of Pasheeknga" starts off with distant rattlesnakes and dark strings while a clean acoustic guitar melody quickly sells the cowboy gun-slinging, spaghetti western vibe. In an explosive shift of pacing, Burn Lodge bursts into bright distorted guitar, brutal screams, and rapid double bass drumming. A soaring guitar solo is soon introduced while intense guitar chugs fill the low end.
At just over 10 minutes of runtime, "The Horsebreakers of Pasheeknga" is an experimental track filled with groovy riffs, chunkily heavy instrumentals, and raw screams that bring black metal and melodic death metal influences into a singular cohesive musical style. After another epic guitar solo, the track slows down–reintroducing the clean western-style guitar before ending in a ferocious metal finale.
