The Backstory

A few days ago, Linkin Park launched a mysterious countdown titled “ø” on their website. Their page showed a black screen with a signup option to be notified when the timer hits zero - leaving fans wondering what the band could be announcing.

Previous rumors of a Linkin Park reunion and the first new vocalist since Chester Bennington are resurfacing with member, Mike Shinoda saying on social media he has “so many exciting things planned for you”.

For days beforehand, people were joking and theorizing about who Linkin Park‘s new vocalist could be.

What Is Happening With Linkin Park Countdown?

After 100 hours of build-up as Linkin Park’s timer neared zero, over 50,000 people tuned into the band’s live YouTube video, waiting to see what was about to happen. Unexpectedly once the timer got to zero, it started counting up, almost humorously. Linkin Park made this post right after the timer expired:

For hours afterwards tens of thousands of fans continued to watch the livestream, wondering if Linkin Park would eventually announce something. Comments on the video wonder if the band is messing with their fans or pulling a prank.

Some fans are concluding that there could be technical difficulties, while other people are convinced that Linkin Park is joking around. What do you think is going on with Linkin Park today? Could it be the band trolling fans or maybe they are building hype for a big announcement like a new vocalist?

Band member Mike Shinoda is even seen commenting on the livestream, making it seem even more like Linkin Park is trolling.

At various points throughout the timers duration, there were glitches in the countdowns text — some fans theorized these could correlate to the date September 5th as being a possible show or tour date.

It seems that Linkin Park has completely broken the internet today with an unexpected turn of events (or lack thereof). Social media is flooded with memes, opinions, and theories about the Linkin Park countdown.

For now, everyone is left confused and waiting to hear an official statement from the band on what happened. Linkin Park may just have pulled one of the biggest music pranks of recent times.
