Progressive Metal Act Ktera Releases New EP, "Solitary"

Review

Ktera just unleashed their debut EP "Solitary" on September 8th. Their single "Faith" starts with ambient guitar melodies that slowly build into grooving, dark guitar leads while distant distorted talking and energetic drums work to create a powerful soundscape full of depth.

Ktera quickly establishes clear progressive metal influences with rapid chugging, double bass drum patterns, and brutally heavy screams. Behind the band's intense extreme metal vocals and instrumentals are echoing clean guitars that introduce elements of melody and add even more intricacy to the band's music. With an overall space aesthetic and ethereal sound, Ktera masterfully creates music that takes the listener on a journey and captures the complexities of modern progressive metal. Clocking in at nearly 8 minutes, "Faith" is a powerful track filled with soaring guitar solos, tempo changes, technical instrumentals, and extreme metal brutality. Fans of progressive rock/metal and death metal with certainly enjoy Ktera's unique and exciting sound.

Interview

How would you describe your music?

"A mixture of modern and vintage vibes, sometimes melancholic, sometimes aggressive, with a progressive edge added to it. We are not afraid to write or play anything, as long as it is rooted in metal."

What are the band's biggest influences?

"We all have different backgrounds and different bands that we enjoy listening to. C, the drummer takes his influences from the progressive rock side. M, the lead guitar player is influenced by virtuoso guitarists and by modern progressive rock/metal bands. A, the bass player takes his influences from the gothic metal side and from the modern progressive. J, the vocalist and rhythm guitar player, is listening mainly to death metal, black metal, and progressive metal."

What is the "Faith" about and what does it mean to you?

"It is a reflection upon things that are somehow beyond our reach and of our understanding or knowledge. It is like an introspection mainly focused on the human emotions when facing the unknown and the questions generated by it."

If you could open a show for any artist who would it be and why?

"We would gladly open for Persefone or Hypno5e in Paris, very good bands with introspective music."

What is your favorite show you’ve played?

"Each show and each venue had its unique charm, flavor, and taste. It is hard to choose so we would rather not."

What is the story behind the name Ktera?

"At first the band was called Perseverance, and it kind of defined us as individuals and also our musical direction, but since Perseverance was also used by some well-known households in the music universe, we decided to choose another name. Among the new proposals, M, the lead guitar player, came up with the abstract name Ktera. We all liked it and decided it would be us from now on. For us, it is the definition of an entire universe where we can unleash our creativity and go beyond the limitations of our real world."

Do you have any songs, collaborations or something you are excited about you can share?

"We have an entire new material written and pre-produced, we are just waiting for the stars in the Kterian universe to align in order to release it. :)"

What inspired the band to start making music?

"All of us were charmed by being a musician, so each one of us played in several local bands, before putting Ktera together. It is simply our love for the same music. Rock and Metal."

What is your creative process when creating new music?

"We wrote all the Solitary songs mainly in the rehearsal room, coming up with individual parts and fitting them together until all of us were happy with what it sounded like. At this moment the writing process is a little bit different, taking full advantage of the online."
