Ozzy Osbourne’s Speech at 2nd Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction
Osbourne Earns his 2nd Rock Hall of Fame Induction For His Solo Career.
On Saturday, Ozzy Osbourne was inducted as a solo artist into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. This is the second time Osbourne has been acknowledged with Black Sabbath’s induction in 2006.
Following Ozzy’s firing from Black Sabbath in 1979, the prince of darkness had an incredibly successful journey with his solo career along with the help of the late guitarist Randy Rhoads who Ozzy showed gratitude to in his acceptance speech on Saturday. Rhoads was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2021.
Ozzy’s induction has been a long time coming with hits like “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley” building a massive reputation for the his solo career. Osbourne is also widely recognized as one of the most known celebrities in rock and metal, with his family’s own TV show The Osbournes.
In his solo career, Ozzy has had multiple Gold and Platinum albums, played massive concerts, won Grammy Awards, and topped the charts—all solidifying him a place in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Performing in honor of Osbourne on Saturday was Billy Idol, Jelly Roll, and Maynard James Keenan (of Tool). After the performances Ozzy gave an acceptance speech (which he has previously stated he doesn't enjoy speeches).
Here’s what the rockstar had to say:
“Well, here we are. You know what? I can’t believe I’m here myself. Let me get the thank yous out of the way, because I’m not going to bore you with a long, drawn out fucking monologue. I’d like to thank whoever voted me into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for my solo work. A great thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
My fans have been so loyal to me over the years, I cannot thank them enough. I’ve been fortunate over the years to play with some of the world’s greatest guitar players, drummers, bass players, and a few of them are here tonight. But I’ve got to say one thing for a guy by the name of Randy Rhoads. If I’d hadn’t have met Randy Rhoads, I don’t think I’d be sitting here now. And moreso more than that, my wife Sharon. Saved my life. And my grandbabies and my babies. I love them all.” — Ozzy Osbourne
