Song Review: Victis "The Harvester" | The Metalverse

Deathcore act originating fom Lubbock, Texas, Victis released their latest track "The Harvester" on November 29th. Lyrically, the song personifies death as a character that looms over us all whether we are aware of it or not.

"The Harvester" starts off with ambient clean guitar tones and booming bass lines that build anticipation before Victis bursts into crushingly heavy guitar chugging and explosive fry screams, gutturals, and growls. Dramatic silence is met by slamming drum cymbals and ferocious vocals, essentially starting the track with down-tempo breakdown pacing. In a sudden switch-up the track bursts into thrashing riffs and double bass drumming that significantly picks up the speed of the track. Racing lead instrumentals work alongside rapid screams to create a sound that reminds of black metal and blast beat deathcore sections.

Clocking in at just over 5 minutes, "The Harvester" takes listeners on a soul-crushingly heavy journey through multiple tempos and influences from across the metalcore, deathcore, hardcore, and thrash genres. Victis does an excellent job of keeping things exciting and utilizing contrast to create massive shifts of energy in their music. You can stream "The Harvester" out on all platforms now!
