2024 was a superb year for the metal community. From Gojira at the Olympics to Knocked Loose on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show, a lot of crazy stuff went down in 2024.
Here are our winners of the 2024 Metalverse awards, voted on by our community! Thanks to everyone who voted to make this possible!
Breakdown of the Year:
KNOCKED LOOSE ft. POPPY - "Suffocate"
Knocked Loose had a career-best this year with a Grammy Nomination for “Best Metal Performance”, multiple viral videos, and a massive performance on the Tonight Show.
“Suffocate” contains one of the band’s most creative breakdowns, mixing reggaeton and the bands distinct hardcore/metalcore style.
Collab of the Year:
BABYMETAL / ELECTRIC CALLBOY - "RATATATA"
The crossover between humor-infused EDM metal band Electric Callboy and J-pop metal act Babymetal caught a lot of people off-guard. “RATATATA” mixes dance music, extreme metal, and Babymetal’s J-pop inspired choruses to create a catchy yet intensely heavy sound.
Unsigned Band of the Year:
DESOLATION
Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Desolation is an exciting up-and-coming force in the deathcore scene. Blending melodic orchestral elements with slamming down-tempo riffs and brutal vocals, the band is creating a crushingly-heavy sound that will leave you banging your head. LINKIN PARK - "The Emptiness Machine"
Linkin Park broke the internet with their return after their 7 year hiatus. The nu-metal legends have been topping the charts since their return and there is no doubt that they have some of the most addictive vocal hooks in the game.
“The Emptiness Machine” was the first track released after the band’s return debut and is one of Linkin Parks current most popular songs.
Breakthrough Band of the Year:
DISEMBODIED TYRANT
Disembodied Tyrant took the metal scene by surprise when they released “The Poetic Edda” a split EP with Synestia. The onslaught of slamming instrumentals, over-the-top breakdowns and racing thrash pacing, mixed the best elements of death metal, deathcore, and black metal in a way that has gained them a significant amount of attention this year.
Best Blegh:
POPPY - "they're all around us"
From her full-length album release “Negative Spaces” to critically acclaimed collaborations with Bad Omens and Knocked Loose, Poppy has had an incredibly successful year.
“they’re all around us” features an addictive chorus and one of Poppy’s heaviest breakdowns to date with a nasty blegh.
Album of the Year:
KNOCKED LOOSE - "You Won't Go Before You're Supposed To"
It’s no surprise to see Knocked Loose winning another award, the band has been one of the most talked about names in the metal industry for the majority of the year. Their latest album “You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To” sparked wide reactions of positivity and has been many metal fans album of the year.
